Quilt Top Preparation Backing and batting must be at least 4 inches larger than the top on all sides. Please make sure your backing is square. Backing that has printed designs help hide starts and stops from the longarm. When selecting backing considers the thread that you will want to use. I use the same thread in the bobbin as the top to avoid pokies. Please do not baste the quilt layers together. These are loaded in the longarm individually. The quilt top and backing should be neatly pressed. Please clip all loose threads. These can show though when finished. Threads can also cause problems for the longarm machine because they get caught up in the wheels and the tracks. If using a directional backing please indicate the top from the bottom with a small note pinned to the backing. Also please identify the To avoid any pleats in your quilt top please measure you top vertically in 3 places sides and center. Take the average of these three for your vertical measurement. After adding the borders on the side then take the horizontal measurement the same way and apply. Please stay-stitch around the border edge seams of the quilt top a scant shy of 1/4 inch in. This will prevent the seams from coming unstitched when being gently rolled or pulled gently to get it to lay flat. Please attach to your quilt your contact information how I may reach you in case of a question or concern (name, mailing address, phone number, e-mail).
