Fall 2011

Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone had a good summer. We have, or I should say Brandon has been busy rearranging the store to get out the extra fabric. You would be amazed out how much we can pack into a small space. Rich then builds the shelves which has allowed us to get multiple rows where we used to get one. We still have over 200 bolts in the garage but that is far less that what we previously have had. You can either laugh or cry about the situtation, I choose to laugh. So I've come up with a new slogan for the shop. "Lonestar Quilting, Where you can shop while you squat!". I've had several ladies take me up on the offer. Some we had to go check on just to make sure they didn't fall in So Brandon can make room for as much as he wants, as long as we can still shop in the bathroom!
Save the date for our Open House November 5. More details to come later. Get some great ideas for quick gifts.

Cotton Club Block Of the Month
Cotton Club a gorgeous collection designed by Paula Barnes of Bonnie Blue Quilts. To accompany the fabrics, Mary Ellen Robison and Paula Barnes, owners of Bonnie Blue Quilts, have also designed a sampler style BOM quilt featuring 5-inch blocks.
The collection was created around an antique border print from the mid 1800's, along with antique coordinates in varying shades of red and brown. The rich red tones include shades of Madder and Turkey red, both commonly used in the 1800s. These are beautifully paired with brown, Bonnie Blue's signature color, of which Paula Barnes says, "We've never met a brown we didn't like and couldn't use in a quilt!"
For the quilt's 45 blocks, Barnes selected small, closely spaced motifs, noting that their scale would lend themselves to the 5-inch size, while shirtings were added to provide lights. The decorative border stripe is cleverly pieced in some of the blocks.
The designers borrowed common elements from original quilts of the period by employing a strip-set design, then went a step further by varying the width of the vertical pieced columns for added visual interest. Blocks are created during Months 1 through 11, and carefully grouped by technique or similarity in style. This allows retailers & quilters alike to focus on a particular quilting skill during that month. The quilt is then completed during Month 12.
Cost is 24.95/month Includes also additional free patterns for other projects.

Generals Wives Block of the Month
Lonestar Quiltings newest Block of the month Generals Wives by Jerry Stube. The fabric is designed by Nancy Gere of Windham Fabrics. Nancy Gere has designed General's Wives, her proudest civil war fabric collection, and Jerry Stube's quilt design by the same name is created to honor these brave women, and truly, the wives of all soldiers who fight to preserve our cause, our country.
In this Block of the Month program, the histories of these women will be offered along with the pattern each month in hope that the quilter will enjoy learning a bit more about these brave women.
The center block is a representation of the rank insignia of General of the Army, a five star general. A few of the generals who served during the Civil War were recognized as General of the Army however, there was not a five star rank at that time. The rank itself did not appear until much later.
Price $26.00/Month
Date: 4th Tuesday of every month starting October 25, 2011. This will be a demo each month of ways to construct the blocks. You can choose either instore pickup, demo, or we can ship the block to you. Normal shipping charges will apply. We use USPS for shipping and weigh each package to assure minimum costs.
